How to Use the Job Description Analyzer
From pasting your CV and a job posting to seeing your real match score and exactly which keywords are missing. No signup, and nothing ever leaves your browser.
Everything above runs entirely in your browser using a built-in skills dictionary and matching logic. Your CV and job description text are never uploaded to a server, so their contents stay completely private from start to finish.
Job Description Analyzer: Check Your Resume's Real Match Score, Free
Quick answer: Paste your CV and a job description above and click Analyze Match — you'll instantly see your Overall Match % and Skills Match %, plus exactly which keywords you're matching and which you're missing. It's free, runs entirely in your browser, and Pro Mode (currently free) adds exact-vs-related matching, job-title/qualification/experience matching, keyword weighting, multiple job description comparison, and CV rewrite tools.
A job description analyzer reads a job posting and your CV side by side and tells you, in concrete terms, where they overlap and where they don't — the same basic check an applicant tracking system (ATS) or a recruiter's first keyword scan is doing to your application anyway. This tool does that job honestly: it extracts the job title, required skills, qualifications, and experience requirements from the posting, then compares each one against your CV using a curated dictionary of hundreds of technical, business, soft-skill, and industry terms, entirely inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, and there's no signup before you can see your score.
This is deliberately a transparent, rule-based resume vs job description match tool rather than a black-box "AI resume score" that gives you a number with no explanation. Every match, every missing keyword, and every recommendation traces back to a specific piece of text in your CV or the job description, so you can see exactly why your score is what it is — and exactly what to add.
1How This Job Description Analyzer Works
Once you click Analyze Match, the tool first extracts structure from the job description: the job title (from the heading or an explicit "Job Title:" line), any stated degree or certification requirement, and any years-of-experience requirement (it understands phrasing like "5+ years," "3-5 years," and "minimum of 5 years" differently, and picks the correct range rather than just grabbing the first number it sees). It then scans both the job description and your CV against a dictionary of 300+ skill and keyword terms — spanning programming languages and frameworks, business and management terms, soft skills, and cross-industry terminology — using word-boundary matching so that, for example, the single letter "R" only counts when it appears as its own word, not buried inside "HR" or "for." Everything you see is then computed live from those two extractions: which keywords appear in both texts (matching), which appear only in the job description (missing), how often each matched keyword appears in your CV, and a plain-language set of recommendations based on the actual gaps found.

Simple Mode covers the everyday case: paste both texts, see your match score and keyword gaps, and get a few concrete suggestions. Pro Mode, currently free to use, is built for anyone actively tailoring a CV for a specific role — it adds the scoring depth (title, qualifications, experience, weighting) and the editing tools (rewrite, summary generator, multi-job comparison) that turn a diagnosis into an actual improved CV.
3Exact vs Related Matching & Keyword Weighting: Real, Verifiable Differences
Two Pro features exist specifically to give you information a simple keyword search can't. Exact vs Related matching distinguishes a keyword that appears in identical form in both texts (an exact match) from one that appears as a recognized abbreviation or alternate name in this tool's dictionary — "JS" on your CV against "JavaScript" in the job description, or "ML" against "Machine Learning" — labeled as a related match. This matters because some ATS systems only reward the exact phrasing the job description used, so a related match is a genuine hint to spell a term out in full somewhere on your CV. Keyword importance weighting assigns a real weight to every keyword based on where it appears in the job description: a term that shows up in the job title or the Required Qualifications section is weighted 3, one in Preferred Qualifications is weighted 2, and one that only appears once in general body text is weighted 1 — so the Pro weighted match score reflects what the job description is actually emphasizing, not just a flat keyword count.
4Common Reasons People Use a Job Description Analyzer
None of these require an account, a subscription, or handing your CV over to a third-party AI service — they're the practical, everyday reasons someone wants an honest comparison right before they hit "submit application."
5Turning Your Match Score Into a Better CV
A score by itself doesn't get you hired — what matters is what you do with the gaps it shows you. Start with the missing keywords list and add only the ones that are honestly true of your background, in the exact wording the job description uses. Then check keyword placement: a skill matched only because it's buried in an old job description bullet carries less weight with many ATS systems than the same skill listed plainly in a dedicated Skills section, so move genuinely relevant matches there. If your qualification or experience match comes back below the requirement, be honest about it, but consider whether related coursework, certifications in progress, or freelance/project work closes some of that gap and is worth adding. Finally, use the Pro rewrite tool on a couple of your weakest bullet points and the summary generator to produce a first draft aligned with this specific role, then edit both in your own voice before you submit anything.
Your CV and job description text are processed entirely inside your own browser tab using JavaScript running locally against a built-in skill dictionary. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted to a server at any point, whether you're in Simple Mode or Pro Mode.
6Frequently Asked Questions
Built transparently, not as a black box. This tool's skill and keyword dictionary — covering technical, business, soft-skill, and cross-industry terminology — was hand-curated by SmallStudyTools rather than pulled from an opaque third-party API, and every score it shows you is computed live, in your browser, from that dictionary and plain matching logic you could trace by hand.
