Cookie Policy
Summary: We use minimal cookies — just what is needed for the site to work and for basic analytics. We use localStorage (not cookies) to save your tool work — your essays, CVs, invoices and other drafts. We never use cookies to track the content you type into a tool.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences and provide website owners with information about how their site is used. Cookies cannot access other files on your device and do not contain your personal content.
Types of Cookies We Use
Essential Cookies in Detail
These cookies are necessary for the website to work correctly. They include:
- Session cookies: Temporary cookies that last only for your browsing session — they remember your preferences such as which mode (Simple or Pro) and which theme (Day or Night) you selected on a tool page
- Security cookies: Set by our hosting platform to protect the site against malicious activity such as cross-site request forgery
- WordPress cookies: Standard cookies set by the WordPress platform for logged-in users and page functionality
Analytics Cookies in Detail
We use analytics to understand how our site is used so we can improve it. Analytics cookies may collect:
- Which pages and tools you visit and how long you spend on each
- How you arrived at our site — search engine, direct link or social media
- Your general geographic location at country level — not your precise location
- Your browser type, device category and screen size
- Whether you are a new or returning visitor
This information is aggregated and anonymised. It tells us that "500 people visited the GPA Calculator from India today" — not who those people are. We cannot identify individual users from analytics data.
You can opt out of Google Analytics at any time by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Advertising Cookies in Detail
If advertising is displayed on our site, our advertising partners — primarily Google AdSense — may place cookies to:
- Show you adverts that are relevant to your interests based on your browsing history
- Limit how many times you see the same advertisement
- Measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns
- Prevent the same advert from being shown repeatedly
These cookies do not give advertisers access to anything you type into a tool — because we never collect that content in the first place. You can manage advertising preferences at adssettings.google.com.
localStorage — How We Save Your Work
Our tools use your browser's localStorage — which is technically different from cookies — to save your work between visits. This is an important distinction:
- localStorage data is stored only on your device
- It is never transmitted to our servers or any other server
- We cannot access your localStorage data — only your own browser can
- It persists until you clear your browser data or we explicitly clear it via tool settings
Examples of what we store in localStorage:
- The essay text in the word counter, or a CV draft in the CV builder — so it restores if you close the tab accidentally
- Your course list in the GPA calculator — so you can return and continue a session
- An in-progress invoice or cover letter draft in the relevant generator
- Your Simple/Pro mode and Day/Night theme preference for each tool
- Your Favorites list, if you've saved any tools to it
To clear localStorage for our site, go to your browser settings and clear the site data for smallstudytools.com.
Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You can control and manage cookies through your browser settings. Here is how in major browsers:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Privacy, Search and Services → Cookies and site permissions
- Opera: Settings → Advanced → Privacy & Security → Cookies
Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of our tools and other websites you visit.
Third-Party Cookie Policies
Third parties including Google may set their own cookies when you visit our site. These are governed by their own privacy and cookie policies:
Cookie Consent
By continuing to use SmallStudyTools, you consent to our use of cookies as described in this policy. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing your cookies and adjusting your browser settings as described above.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, regulation or our practices. Any changes will be indicated by the updated date at the top of this page.
