🤖 AI Crawlers — Allow or Block by Name
Every bot below is a real, currently-documented AI crawler user-agent. Toggle each one on (allowed) or off (blocked) site-wide, or filter by what it's used for.
⚡ Quick-Start Presets PRO
One click sets every toggle above — you can still edit any bot afterward before generating.
📄 Generated robots.txt
Set your bot toggles above (and any sitemap URL in the sidebar), then click "Generate robots.txt Rules" to see the output here.
🔀 Combine With Your Existing robots.txt PRO
Paste the robots.txt you already have (for example, one built with the Robots.txt Generator, or copied from your live site). Your existing rules are kept exactly as written — the AI-bot rules above are appended as new blocks underneath, and any bot already listed in your pasted text is skipped so it's never duplicated.
📚 Real AI Crawler Reference Table PRO
Bot names and user-agent tokens above are taken directly from each company's own published crawler documentation (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, Common Crawl) or from independently corroborated reporting on undocumented tokens (ByteDance's Bytespider, Amazon's Amazonbot, Meta's meta-externalagent). See the "Standards" note on this page's SEO content section for exact source links.
🗺️ Sitemap Line (Optional)
If filled in, a Sitemap: line is added at the end of your generated output. Leave blank to skip it.
🏷️ What the Categories Mean
Training — the bot may use pages it fetches as training data for a future AI model.

Search — the bot crawls to build a search index, similar to a traditional search engine.

Answer — the bot fetches a specific page in real time only when a person's question to that AI assistant needs it.
💬 Output Format PRO
Include Explanatory Comments
Adds a one-line # comment above each bot's block naming the company and purpose

How to Use the AI Crawler Access Generator

Toggle real AI bots on or off by name, generate the matching robots.txt rules, and optionally merge them into a robots.txt you already have — all in your browser, no signup.

1
Toggle Each AI Bot
GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and 9 more real, named crawlers — switch each one Allow or Block site-wide, or filter by what it's used for (Training, Search, or Answer).
2
Add a Sitemap Line (Optional)
Paste your sitemap URL in the sidebar and it's appended to the output as a standard Sitemap: line — handy if this is your whole robots.txt rather than just the AI-bot section.
3
Generate Your Rules
Click "Generate robots.txt Rules" and a real User-agent / Allow / Disallow block is built for every bot you configured — ready to copy or download as robots.txt.
4
Switch to Pro for Full Control
Add per-bot path exceptions, apply a one-click preset, or paste a robots.txt you already have and merge the AI-bot rules into it without touching your existing lines.
5
Copy, Download, or Upload
Copy the text straight to your clipboard or download it as robots.txt, then upload that file to your site's root directory so crawlers can actually find it.

Everything above runs entirely in your browser using rule-based JavaScript. Your sitemap URL and any existing robots.txt you paste are never uploaded to a server.

AI Crawler Access Generator: Allow or Block GPTBot, ClaudeBot & More, Free, Right in Your Browser

Quick answer: Toggle each named AI bot (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and more) to Allow or Block, click Generate, and copy or download the resulting robots.txt rules. Pro Mode adds per-bot path exceptions, one-click presets, and a way to merge these rules into a robots.txt you already have without touching your existing lines. It's free, with no signup, and nothing you paste is ever uploaded to a server.

A plain Disallow: / under User-agent: * blocks everything, including the search engines you still want crawling your site. Since 2023, a growing list of named AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot, Bytespider, and others) has made that approach too blunt: some of these bots crawl for AI model training, some crawl to power a search-style answer, and some only fetch a page the moment a real person asks a question that needs it. Treating all three the same way throws away the distinction most site owners actually care about. This tool lets you set a rule per bot, by name, using the real user-agent tokens each company has published.

Every bot listed here is a real, currently-documented AI crawler, not a placeholder. The names and purposes come from each company's own crawler documentation where one exists (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, Common Crawl), or from independently corroborated reporting where a company hasn't published a dedicated page (ByteDance's Bytespider, Amazon's Amazonbot, Meta's meta-externalagent). See the sourcing note at the bottom of this page for the exact references used.

1Training, Search, and Answer: Why the Same Company Can Have Three Different Bots

OpenAI and Anthropic both split their crawling into three distinct bots with three distinct purposes, and this tool keeps that same split. A training bot, like GPTBot or ClaudeBot, crawls content that may end up as training data for a future model. A search bot, like OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot, crawls and indexes pages the way a traditional search engine does, to power a search-style feature inside the AI product. An answer bot, like ChatGPT-User, Claude-User, or Perplexity-User, doesn't crawl at all in the bulk sense: it fetches one specific page, in real time, only because a person's question to that assistant required visiting it. A common pattern among sites that want AI visibility without feeding model training is to block the training bots while leaving the search and answer bots allowed, since those are the ones that tend to cite or link back to the source page.

Simple Mode covers the common case: pick an Allow or Block stance for each bot and generate the rules. Pro Mode, currently free to use, is built for the messier real situation, where a site already has a robots.txt file, wants different rules for different folders, or wants to apply a sensible starting point and adjust from there instead of configuring 13 bots one at a time.

3Common Reasons Site Owners Set Rules for AI Crawlers

🛡️
Blocking Training Bots While Staying Visible in AI Answers
📰
Publishers Protecting Paywalled or Licensed Content
🔍
Store & Site Owners Staying Findable in AI Search Features
📄
Developers Adding AI-Bot Rules to an Existing robots.txt
🧪
Agencies Setting a Consistent Policy Across Client Sites
🚫
Site Owners Who Simply Want No AI Crawling At All

None of these need a developer on standby or a CMS plugin, just a clear decision per bot and a text file placed at your site's root. That's the gap this tool fills: an accurate, up-to-date list of real AI crawler names so the decision is about policy, not about guessing what to even type into robots.txt.

4Per-Bot Path Exceptions and Merging With an Existing robots.txt

A single site-wide Allow or Block per bot isn't always enough. Pro Mode's path exceptions let you set a general stance for a bot and then carve out specific folders that behave the opposite way, for example allowing ClaudeBot everywhere except a /private/ directory, or blocking GPTBot everywhere except a public /press/ section you want cited. The tool writes the correct Allow and Disallow lines for that combination automatically.

Most sites also already have a robots.txt file with rules for ordinary search engines, sitemaps, or crawl restrictions on admin folders. Pasting that file into the Combine card keeps every one of those existing lines exactly as written and appends the new AI-bot blocks underneath as their own User-agent sections. If a bot you configured is already named somewhere in the pasted file, the tool skips adding a second block for it rather than creating a conflicting duplicate.

Honest Limits

Robots.txt is a request, not a lock. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Perplexity all state they respect it for the bots documented here, so rules for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, and PerplexityBot are a real, honored signal. Not every crawler has that track record: Bytespider has been reported to disregard robots.txt on some sites. A Disallow rule also can't remove content a bot already collected before the rule existed, and it has no effect on a crawler that isn't on this list at all.

5Frequently Asked Questions

What is an AI crawler access generator, and is it really free?
It's a tool that lets you allow or block real, named AI bots like GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot and then generates the matching robots.txt rules for you. This one is free, with no signup, and runs entirely in your browser.
Does blocking GPTBot or ClaudeBot in robots.txt actually stop AI companies from using my content?
It stops the well-behaved crawlers from those two companies specifically. OpenAI and Anthropic both publish their crawler names and say they respect robots.txt, so a Disallow rule for GPTBot or ClaudeBot is a real, honored signal. It doesn't retroactively remove content those bots already collected, and it has no effect on crawlers that don't respect robots.txt, which is a documented issue with at least one bot in this list.
What's the difference between a "training" bot and an "answer" bot?
A training bot, like GPTBot or ClaudeBot, crawls pages that may be used as data to train a future AI model. An answer bot, like ChatGPT-User or Perplexity-User, only fetches a specific page in real time when a person's question to that assistant actually requires visiting it. Many site owners choose to block training bots while leaving answer bots allowed, since answer bots tend to send a visible citation or link back.
Does Google-Extended affect my Google Search rankings?
No. Google has stated that Google-Extended is a separate control token that governs whether content Googlebot already crawled can be used to train and ground Gemini. It does not control whether Googlebot can crawl your site or how you rank in Google Search results.
Can I add these AI-bot rules to a robots.txt file I already have?
Yes. Pro Mode's combine feature lets you paste your existing robots.txt, and the tool appends the new AI-bot rules as separate User-agent blocks underneath it without changing a single line you already had, skipping any bot that's already listed in your pasted text so it's never duplicated.

Grounded in each company's own published documentation. Bot names, user-agent tokens, and stated purposes are taken from OpenAI's crawler documentation (GPTBot, ChatGPT-User, OAI-SearchBot), Anthropic's crawler support article (ClaudeBot, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot), Perplexity's crawler documentation (PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User), and Common Crawl's CCBot page. Google-Extended's behavior and scope are documented in Google's own public statements on the token, reported by outlets including Search Engine Land and Search Engine Journal. Bytespider, Amazonbot and meta-externalagent aren't the subject of a single dedicated company policy page, so their tokens and purposes here reflect independently corroborated technical reporting rather than one official source.
