3Compression Level, Explained

4Preserving Original Timestamps

By default, a freshly built ZIP stamps every entry with the moment it was created, today's date and time, because that's simply when the new file object came into existence. That's fine for a lot of purposes, but it erases a piece of real information: when the file inside the RAR was actually last modified. Turning on Preserve original timestamps in Pro Mode changes that. Instead of using the conversion time, the tool reads each file's real modification date directly out of the RAR archive's own metadata during extraction and writes that exact date into the corresponding ZIP entry. This matters for anything where "when was this actually last touched" is meaningful, backups you want to restore with accurate history intact, source code where file dates hint at what changed recently, or a media library where the original creation date should survive being repackaged. 5Exclude Junk & System Files

Archives that have passed through a Mac or a Windows machine at some point often pick up files nobody actually wanted in them. macOS's Archive Utility frequently adds a hidden __MACOSX folder full of AppleDouble metadata files when it creates or repacks an archive, plus a .DS_Store file in any folder Finder has displayed. Windows leaves behind its own clutter too: Thumbs.db caches folder thumbnail previews, desktop.ini stores per-folder display customizations, and occasionally a file literally named Icon followed by an invisible carriage-return character shows up as a leftover custom-folder-icon marker. None of that is content anyone meant to share, it's operating-system bookkeeping that got swept up into the archive by accident. The ZIP format has supported an archive-level comment since its earliest versions, a short piece of text stored in the file's end-of-central-directory record, separate from any individual file inside it, that's meant to describe the archive as a whole.
